Rhythmic Gymnastics

Rhythmic Gymnastics is a sport that combines elements of dance (ballet) and gymnastics with the simultaneous manipulation of handheld apparatus – ball, hoop, rope, ribbon, clubs. It’s performed by individuals or in groups of 4-5 gymnasts to music. The special appeal of rhythmic gymnastics lies in the perfect unity of graceful body movements and the skillful handling of the apparatus. During the exercise, the apparatus is in constant motion and becomes one with the gymnast’s body and movements.
Rhythmic gymnasts don’t do flips! Rhythmic gymnasts perform balances, pivots, flexions, leaps and throws, rhythmic steps and pre-acrobatic elements such as cartwheels and walkovers. They develop great hand-eye coordination from handling the apparatus. Rhythmic gymnastics relies more on flexibility than strength, although strength is necessary to support great flexibility, and ensure safety in training.

Reach Education, Mathematics Programme

Reaching Competence, by Reach Education, is a mathematics programme presented in booklet form that is aligned with the the New Zealand curriculum. It involves a range of activities including worksheets, hands-on tangible play, board games and online applications that parents can use at home to support their children with their maths. Our aim is to deliver our programme to parents and caregivers at a price they can afford, and at a time when it is suitable for the family. Our booklets start from just $20 and we also have maths resources available for purchase on our website.

Reach Education is directed by JJ Purton Jones, who holds a Master in Professional Studies in Education and is herself a qualified primary school teacher, and Lucy Patston, who holds a PhD in Cognitive Psychology, has taught in the tertiary sector for over 15 years, and has (nearly) three children at primary school. We are passionate about empowering informed parents and caregivers to help improve their children’s maths confidence and skills in an affordable manner that delivers quality time and connection to both parties.

We ask for your support in tapping our parent/caregiver market to promote this product, which we believe can help so many NZ children in a fun, colourful and interactive way.

Please free feel to have a look at the samples available on our website: www.reacheducation.co.nz

Mandarin Lessons

Due to demand, Ni Hao Children’s Community Charitable Trust is providing Beginners Mandarin classes (Level 1) in the Khandallah area, on Tuesdays 3:30-4:40pm at The Village Church. This is open to children in Years 1 to 8 (however if there is large mix of ages, we will split into two classes: Years 1-4 and Years 5-8).

Your child will learn Mandarin Chinese as a Foreign/Additional Conversational Language in a fun and engaging way, in a full immersion environment with their peers. Our programme is for those from non-Chinese backgrounds and Chinese heritage  families who do not use Mandarin.

The children will learn in a way that is meaningful and relevant to life (practical, not academic), with social interaction/conversation, games, raps. We do not spend time painting or making crafts as the focus is on developing oral language skills. Your children will also be introduced to some basic Chinese character writing related to the curriculum. (Please note that learning a new language once a week is a long term commitment. Our programme is planned for children to attend consecutive terms / school years).
Please email us at info@nihaocc.org.nz or visit nihaocc.org.nz for more info, view the schedule and to sign up for a trial! There are also opportunities to provide lunchtime or after school classes in your child’s school if the school permits and has suitable space.
